THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND ROMAN NUMERALS
Believe it or not, English words are based on the Latin language. You may have realized that many English words contain Latin bases or roots. This is precisely the key. We use the Latin alphabet and Latin proverbs.
Roman numerals are another part of Roman language, some of the more common ones that we sometimes use on clocks (numbers 1-10) are I, II, III, IV, V, VII, VIII, IX, X. Some others are 50, 100, 500, and 1000, X, L, C, D, M.
In an example of Latin roots and bases in our language today we will use the word transport. The root is portare means to carry, the prefix trans means across or change. So if we combine them they mean to carry across, which is the definition of transportation.
