INTRODUCTION
In the first expansion, the Romans fought many wars and, in turn, expanded their empire greatly. This happened through a series of events. Through a stretch of time from 509 B.C.E. to 264 B.C.E., the Romans conquered all of Italy.
THE FIRST EXPANSION: HOW DID IT HAPPEN?
For the Romans, the first course of action in expanding their empire was to drive out the last Etruscan king. This is when Rome became a republic. The Roman people wanted to protect their borders and gain more land, so they ended up taking part in several wars. During a time span of 245 years, the Romans struggled through fight after fight. They conquered the Latin people in central Italy and even defeated the Etruscans. Then, after a while, they ended up becoming allies with their old enemies. In 264 B.C.E., with the help of their allies, Rome was in control of all of Italy.
CONCLUSION
Although the expansion of their empire was good for the Romans, others might feel differently. The Etruscan or Latin people could probably view the expansion of the Roman empire as a bad thing because of the wars that they faced and the aftermath of their loss; although, they probably ended up with no hard feelings since they later became allies.
