INTRODUCTION
The Etruscans influenced the Romans because they were so close to them. They shared ideas and traded with each other. Many of their ideas were shared- in example, some of their sports and architecture were shared. If someone else has a good idea, why not use it and save yourself some work!
SPORTS
The Etruscans introduced the Romans to chariot races. This involved many people in carts pulled by horses. Even though it might not seem dangerous, it was. If you fell off your chariot, unless you were dead last, you would be trampled and probably wouldn't survive. Although you would be rewarded if you won, it could also be deadly.
The Etruscans also introduced them to slave fighting. The slaves fought at their master’s funeral with small shields and swords. The slaves would fight to the death and it would usually be the attraction of the funeral. After the victor was crowned they were congratulated and then executed (Sadie was mad that they didn't even get a cookie.)
Another sport that the Etruscans introduced was gladiator fighting. The Romans put slaves into an arena and watched them slaughter each other. Sometimes people and groups of people would be put in the arena based on a biased decision of a superior voice. Sometimes they would capture a wild animal and put slaves in the arena with it. The Roman people were quite bloodthirsty and would do almost anything for entertainment.
ARCHITECTURE
One architectural element that the Etruscans contributed to the Romans was the cuniculus. It carried water in and out of the city and also irrigated their fields. It was underground and also had vertical shafts that connected it to the surface. They used them to drain swamps as well.
Another element that the Romans adopted was the arch. It was built with two columns and then a semicircle of wedge-shaped bricks on top. Another stone, called a keystone, held it all together at the top. They used the arch in many public places and arenas.
